HostCensus is a subsidiary web site of The Anti-Abuse Project. HostCensus is a non-profit web site built for the sole purpose of providing you with a place to exchange information on the vast number of web hosting players on the market. We believe that the best way to conduct this information exchange would be in the form of reviews and scores/ratings to best describe the quality of service provided by a certain web hosting provider.
The idea to build such a web site originally came while we were working on a research project on the hosting market and the ways various web hosts handle abuse reports. For this reason, we were to pick a number of web hosting companies to work with. We started the conventional manner by searching Google using a variety of keywords and phrases. Well, searching is easy, but finding came out to be quite of a problem. Believe it or not, we were unable to find the pre-defined number of web hosting companies to meet our criterii for collaboration.
We did find, however, a massive number of web hosting directories that all state to be independent and objective in providing their company listings, reviews, ratings and so on. Still, no matter how independent and objective they state to be, truth is they all seem to depend on ads, featured listings, paid articles, affiliate banners, etc. The way we see it, these are all very good ways to misdirect and confuse the potential web hosting buyers. Now, one may disagree - it is their right - but one can hardly argue the facts so easily seen by anyone.
This is why TAAProject decided to build HostCensus. You will see no ugly blinking banners, no ads, no featured listings, no paid reviews. Our goal is to provide you with pure and objective set of information.
We used the word "independent" in our web site slogan just because we are independent. We all hate it when we are just looking for something just to find ourselves drowning in blinking banners, paid reviews, featured links, sponsored links, etc. We are in no position to judge anyone trying to make some money this way, however we do not find it moral to mislead potential web hosting buyers just for the single purpose of grabbing a few coins. Seems like everyone's doing it. We won't.
